NerdyMind is Going Virtual
Posted on March 17, 2020 Mary Merritt
March 25th, 2020 Update:
Hello friends! For the health and safety of Larimer County residents, our health officials have issued a "Stay-at-Home" order that goes into effect on Thursday, March 26th at 5pm. This means that NerdyMind offices in Old Town Fort Collins will remained closed until the order is lifted (currently effective through April 17th, 2020). The NERDS will continue working remotely until this date. Do your best to stay healthy, everyone! We can get through this TOGETHER.
What is NerdyMind doing to NOT spread COVID-19?
Hello everyone! Happy St. Patrick's Day!
It goes without saying that we live in very crazy times. But we also live in modern times, and that is why NerdyMind has decided to go virtual for the time being. Our office on Canyon Avenue in Old Town Fort Collins is closed for the next 10-14 days. We may be slowing down the spread of COVID-19, but we're not slowing down our service to our clients! Everyone at NerdyMind is equipped with the technology necessary to successfully grind away at the home office without any interruptions. To sum it up:
- All NERDS have been given the equipment necessary to work from home for the next couple of weeks as our nation works together to quell the spread of COVID-19.
- All client meetings have been re-structured as conference calls and virtual meetings.
- All work travel has been canceled and/or rescheduled as necessary.
We're also getting a lot of questions from our clients and friends, and we want to help as many people as we can. Here are some of the questions we have been receiving, along with some simple answers. Since we can't cover all industries related questions here, feel free to schedule a time to chat with us about your specific questions. Here we go:
Should I freeze my digital advertising spend?
It's obvious that I would say NO, but hear me out. In many cases, I do think it is a good idea to slow down your spending. However, an important factor to consider is how much research is being done right now. That's right. People are at home, holed up, and they are hitting Google. Some industries are seeing significantly lower search volume, and some are seeing large spikes. For industries seeing a dip, your advertising spend is going to drop naturally with the search volume. For industries seeing a spike in search volume, we suggest to heighten your list-building efforts so you can communicate with these people more exclusively once things calm down.
If I am closed down, how can I keep revenue rolling in?
This is a big question, and it's important to get very creative here. If you are a brewery or distillery, offer a small discount on gift cards and gift packs that can be delivered at a later date. If you are a restaurant, you can do the same, but you can also kick up your delivery efforts with special marketing messages and incentives. If you are a retail store, have you ever thought about going to eCommerce? It's a great way to keep sales rolling in when your retail store is closed down and foot traffic comes to a halt. Offering your products online can make a difference.
There are many angles that exist for different industries. If you are interested in chatting about it, make sure to contact us so we can talk it through.
How do I bounce back from this?
This is a large storm that we all have to weather together. Some industries are being hit harder than others, and we are doing our best to support the business community as much as possible.
As mentioned above, people are doing a lot of research online right now. If you can get in front of these researchers and continue to build brand awareness and trust, it can only help your business cause. If you don't stop your efforts, you don't have to bounce back quite as much - but the recovery time will be significant for some (such as the travel industry).
Do your research to see if you qualify for any business assistance programs, too. Plus, if you've never had a line of credit for your business, now might be the time to explore such options.
Finally, let's not lose the lesson here. Having strong contingency plans in place for such situations will "future-proof" your business a bit more. While you are holed up at home, get creative and think of other revenue streams and ways to keep your business "young" in general.
